Is there a way of cleaning cool mist humidifier - "filters" ?

I bought a Sunbeam Self-possessed Mist Humidifier and the replacement cost of these wick filters is extraordinary over $100.00 ,.........just to run the humidifier.

try waterlogged it in plain white vinegar for an hour or so. rinse well with free water as vinegar is an acid
